1.  Three Ring Binder:  For copies of music, lesson comments, and practice charts.

3.  Flash Cards:  A set of flash cards are crucial for every beginning student.

Metronome

When the appropriate time arrives you will be informed to purchase a metronome.

PRACTICE

Children ages 5-6 are expected to practice 30 minutes a day; ages 7-11 should practice 45 minutes a day, and any student 12 yrs or older should practice one hour each day.

It is IDEAL to practice EVERYDAY, but the MINIMUM requirement is 5-6 days a week. Refer to the Parent’s Responsibilities Policy for more information, and also please take time to read How Children Practice.

SCHEDULING

Cancelled/Missed Lessons

You may reschedule any lesson cancelled within 24 hours notice as long as it fits with Ms. Dusini’s teaching schedule.  Lessons cancelled without 24 hours notice for any reason other than emergency are not eligible for re-scheduling and you will be held financially responsible for those occasions.

Trips/Holidays

If you plan to take a trip you are still obligated to pay the full months tuition.  Please inform Ms. Dusini in advance for planned trips so that the necessary lessons can  be rescheduled. You will be provided with a statement showing when the studio will be closed during the year.  Any week the studio is open you are expected to pay full tuition.

Teacher Absence

If Ms. Dusini needs to cancel a lesson for any reason, you will receive either a rescheduled lesson or a credit for the missed lesson in the following months payment.

Summer Lessons

Those students who intend to continue piano lessons in the Fall are required to take lessons during the summer.

LESSON TERMINATION

Ms. Dusini will suggest terminating lessons in very rare cases, such as, (1) a major lack of parental support as listed in the Parent's Responsibilities Policy, (2) failure to pay tuition, (3) consistently late payment of tuition, (4) missing too many lessons, (5) a student acting defiant or hostile.

If you wish to cancel lessons you must give Ms. Dusini 30 days notice so that she can finish her teachings, end the lessons on a positive note, and find another student to fill the vacant spot.

PERFORMANCES

Group Lessons

Group lessons are a time for students to get together with other students at their playing level and perform.  In addition to performing, group lessons include theory study, ear training, ensemble playing, music history, and music appreciation.  It is a time for fun, games, food, performing, and getting to know other students.

Group lessons are for students only and will replace regular lessons during the week they are scheduled.

Studio Recitals

Throughout the year there will be recitals held at the home studio.  Students are highly encouraged to perform on such occasions.

WSMTA Recitals

There are many recitals, competitions, and festivals conducted by the Washington State Music Teachers Association.  Students are expected to take part in these events.  Recitals are a great way to set goals and keep students motivated to practice daily.   Also, when students share their music they acquire a sense of pride in what they have accomplished.
